ingley Little Theatre is presenting an evening of plays, poetry, music and song with a First World War theme.
The performances include Brothers In Arms, a one-act play by Richard Walsh, who researched the history of a local family caught up in the war.
The Foster family lived in James Street, Bingley, and only six of their 14 children survived infancy. The play centres around three brothers, Tom and Arthur, who are off to fight in France, and younger sibling Fred, who is left at home but passionately looks forward to the day he will be old enough to serve his country.
David Brett and Deborah Mouat play the parents while the younger characters are played by members of Bingley Little Theatre’s Kaleidoscope Youth Theatre Group. Tom is played by Liam Burnham, Arthur by Ben Pearson and Fred by Gabe Bowden.
This is Richard’s first drama as a playwright although he has written comedy scripts for his murder mystery company, Dial M. He says: “The play is based on the wartime experiences of a real family. It would be fantastic to see any local people at the event who have some connection with the Foster family.”
Also on the bill is an excerpt of Oh! What A Lovely War performed by Bingley Amateur Operatic Society; Over The Top, a short piece by Geoff Parker; and poems and letters from the period.
The event takes place on Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18, at Bingley Arts Centre, in the upstairs studio, at 7.30pm. For tickets, call (01274) 567983.
