Nine young people are walking, cycling and rowing their way from Bradford to the Lake District carrying an Olympic Torch.
The mission is being sponsored by Morrisons to raise funds for Brathay Trust which helps 5,000 vulnerable and disengaged youngsters in the UK every year. The group left Morrisons’ head office on Wednesday and is on its way to Brathay Hall in Ambleside.
Day one of the challenge was a 21-mile hike to Skipton and yesterday they cycled 35 miles to Kirkby Lonsdale. Today they will complete the challenge by cycling to Windermere, then rowing four miles along the lake to the Brathay Trust’s base.
There, they will celebrate the start of the annual ‘Brathay 10in10’ ultra-distance running charity event – where endurance athletes will run the Windermere Marathon course ten times over ten consecutive days.
The group will carry an Olympic Torch donated to the charity by torch-bearer Davey Green from Cornwall.
Morrisons’ head of corporate responsibility Steven Butts said: “Morrisons is pleased to support Bradford youngsters in raising funds for Brathay Trust’s ‘Olympic Torch Journey’. ”
“Bradford has some of the most underprivileged communities in Yorkshire and Humberside.”
