A children’s ward at the Bradford Royal Infirmary has had a mural make-over thanks to a healthcare assistant who is an artist in his spare time.
Richard Taylorson’s skills were called on by Ward 16 staff who asked him to brighten up the corridors and paediatric assessment unit (PCU) for patients and their families. Three of his murals have gone in in the PCU, while another two are in the main ward and its corridors.
Richard, 39, of Baildon, said: “When I was a child my grandfather taught me how to draw and I got interested in shading and 3D art from there. I didn’t do art at school but started painting canvases again for the love of it around 2003.
“In the past, I’ve worked across a lot of different BRI wards and everyone knew I painted in my spare time. But it wasn’t’ until I moved to ward 16 that the staff heard about my skills and asked if I would like to paint some murals.”
