Sooty, who started life in Guiseley, is celebrating his 65th year in show business.
Sooty is joined by his canine chum Sweep, panda friend Soo and host Richard Cadell (pictured) in a new family stage show.
The Sooty show is the world’s longest-running children’s programme. Harry Corbett originally bought Sooty for son Matthew while on holiday in Blackpool in 1948.
Sooty first appeared on television screens in 1952 and, following Harry’s retirement in 1976, the bear was operated by Matthew, enjoying a new wave of popularity.
Matthew Corbett retired in 1998, giving Sooty to then co-star Richard Cadell, who presented the show through another five series. Richard bought the rights to Sooty in 2008.
The Sooty Show is at King’s Hall, Ilkley, on Wednesday, April 23 at 11am and 2.30pm. For tickets, ring (01274) 432000.
