Bradford East MP David Ward has called on the Government to introduce compulsory registration of off-road vehicles in order to reduce anti-social behaviour and improve safety.
Mr Ward (Lib Dem) has tabled an Early Day Motion and written to Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin campaigning for owners of off-road vehicles to be required by law to register their vehicle including the compulsory display of a registration plate.
Currently off-road vehicle owners do not have to have a number plate or register their vehicle.
This makes it difficult for the police to identify off-road vehicles being driven illegally on public roads.
He said: “If off-road vehicles had to be registered and have number plates, it would be much easier for the police to identify owners illegally driving on public roads and being a danger to themselves, drivers and pedestrians.”
