An Oxenhope man born with cerebral palsy has defied previous expectation and published a collection of poems.
William David Markham, 53, has been writing poetry for the past ten years with assistance from his sister.
At a pre-publication celebration of his work attended by George Galloway MP, Mr Markham’s friends, family and supporters were treated to a reading of his signature poem, That’s Not What I Do.
His book, All This and Sod All Else, is accompanied by reflections on his life which has thrust his own personal achievements and experience into the limelight.
Throughout his life Mr Markham has worked tirelessly to highlight the difficulties individuals who are “differently abled” face.
He said: “People like me just want to be accepted and included.”
He also spoke about the need for a deeper understanding of the contribution disabled people can bring to society.
