A Colombian banana farmer visited a Bradford school to talk to them about the importance of the Fairtrade movement.
Alicia Fernandez Angulo had been touring Yorkshire to promote the Fairtrade Foundation’s “Stick with Foncho” campaign, to make the international banana trade more fair for farmers.
Bradford Grammar School welcomed her yesterday as part of Fairtrade Fortnight. During the day she told pupils, aged six to 18, about working conditions in her home country.
Teacher Liz Kingsley said: “Pupils learn about Fairtrade in geography, economics and business studies lessons, so to have a banana plantation manager here in school to tell us about her life and working conditions in Colombia will really bring their understanding of Fairtrade to life.”
