The countdown to this summer’s Bingley Music Live festival has begun, with the first acts for the outdoor extravaganza announced.

Organisers have promised that “multi platinum artists” and some headliers will be announced next week, but have today revealed several up and coming bands who will get a taste of playing to thousands at the Myrtle Park event on August 29, 30 and 31.

Bands announced this afternoon are Bipolar Sunshine, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Eliza and the Bear, We Are Catchers, Night Engine, Natasha North, D/C and cult DJ outfit Ultimate Power.

The festival has been attracting major international acts to the park for years, and last year’s weekend saw headline performances from disco legends Chic, Primal Scream and Human League.

Other headline acts have included Chase and Status, Razorlight and the Charlatans.

But the festival is also known for offering spots to up and coming bands, in 2012 a then unknown Jake Bugg played several spots down the line up, just months away from nabbing a number one album.

Bipolar Sunshine has already written and performed a track with Brits Award winners Rudimental, and Radio One DJ Zane Lowe has declared Catfish and the Bottlemen’s latest single his “hottest record in the world.”

London band Eliza and the Bear have been championed by DJs like Fearne Cotton and Zane Lowe on Radio One. Night Engine have recently toured with likes of The 1975 and Kaiser Chiefs whilst solo artist D/C’s fans include chart toppers Chase and Status.

Contemporary folk sensation Natasha North has been touring with legendary songwriter and multi Grammy winning Suzanne Vega, with We Are Catchers from Liverpool, have been recently been signed by the head of record label Domino, home to Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand.

DJ outfit Ultimate Power will bring clenched fists and air guitar to the proceedings - the group are famed for their sets at clubs and festivals across the UK where they play the finest in power balladry, from Meatloaf to Whitesnake to Bonnie Tyler.

Coun Andrew Thornton, Bradford Council’s executive member for sports and leisure, said: "Bingley Music Live has a history of showcasing the very best of UK homegrown new music.

" We wanted to give these new acts the opportunity to shine on their own, so have gone against the grain and announced them before announcing the main headliners and other key artists.

" These artists have the potential to be future festival headliners and I’m sure in year’s to come, people will be saying I saw them first at Bingley Music Live just like they did with acts like Jake Bugg."
