A man led weeping to imprisonment in handcuffs after persistently flouting court orders was told by the judge: “Dry your eyes and get on with it.”
Drug addict Robert Jezierski was given chance after chance to avoid custody for breaking into an occupied house in Fagley, Bradford, and stealing property valued at £685, Bradford Crown Court was told yesterday.
In March last year, he was sentenced to ten months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months.
Three months later, Jezierski, 19, of Harewood Street, Barkerend, Bradford, attempted to steal drinks from Morrisons in Thornbury.
Days after receiving a deferred sentence of custody, he stole two bottles of fragrance, valued at £2, from Poundland in Bradford city centre on November 12.
He then failed to turn up at court in December to be re-sentenced and was re-arrested on Monday and brought to Bradford Crown Court in custody yesterday.
Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC heard that Jezierski, who was assisted by a Polish interpreter, had completed one hour of the 150 hours of unpaid work for the community he was ordered to perform.
His barrister, Michael Greenhalgh, said Jezierski was the father of a child, had sought help for his drug addiction and was willing to comply with a curfew if given a final opportunity.
But Judge Durham Hall said the courts had already been over lenient.
He sentenced him to eight months in a young offender institution.
