Police have praised the courage of a teenage girl who fought off a man attempting to abduct her. The 17-year-old was waiting at a bus stop, at the junction of Bradford Road and North View Road in Birkenshaw, when an old four-door silver saloon car pulled up. The driver leaned across the passenger seat and called through the window to the girl to get in the car. He repeated the demand and when the girl refused he got out of the vehicle, grabbed hold of her arm and tried to drag her inside. But the teenager kicked him in the shin, forcing him to let go. She ran to a nearby house to raise the alarm, and the man drove off. The girl was extremely shocked but not physically hurt. Detective Inspector Andy Parr (pictured), of Kirklees CID, said: “Incidents like this are always concerning. We would like to hear from anyone who saw a man and a car matching the description in that area.”
