Motorists have been warned that cars could be broken into for almost anything after West Yorkshire Police revealed the top five strangest items stolen from vehicles – including a packet of crisps.
Opportunist thieves have also struck to take bird seed, deckchairs, umbrellas and cups.
Chris Joyce, the force’s crime prevention officer, urged drivers to remove valuables from their vehicles.
He said: “It takes seconds to remove items from your vehicle and lock it, the same amount of time it takes a thief to steal them.”
Police are targeting known thieves as part of the Operation Viper crackdown.
