Tour de France fever could lead to more Oxenhope Primary School pupils cycling to school.

Deputy headteacher, John Parkin, hopes pupils and parents will be inspired to raise money for new bike stands.

He believes the stands would form a perfect site for a giant letter ‘O’, created last week by the children.

Oxenhope is the latest school to get involved in efforts to create giant Hollywood-style ‘Welcome to Yorkshire’ signs in time for the summer. They will be placed at outdoor locations to welcome Tour competitors and fans to the Worth Valley.

Ward councillor, Russell Brown, who is spearheading Project Hollywood, visited the school last week with components of a giant ‘O’.

Mr Parkin said: “The whole school signed their names on the pieces of wood.”

Once the ‘O’ has been used in July, it will be returned to the school to form a permanent fixture.

Mr Parkin said: “We’re trying to create a legacy and a link to cycling. This could provide the spark for us to make some bike stands.”
