One of television’s most feared villains helped make a Bradford school’s open day “the best yet”.

Children at 15 schools around the city were invited to the open day at Hanson Academy on Sutton Avenue and were greeted by a Dalek.

However this creation was product of the school’s technology department rather than evil genius Davros, and delighted the 110 year six children who came to visit the school before deciding where they go once they leave primary school.

The model had been used for the English department’s sci-f writing project.

There was also language sessions, drama presentations and a re-created World War Two bomb shelter that let children and their parents get a taster of the school’s different departments.

Alistair Young, one of the teachers at the school, said: “It was the best open evening we’ve ever had. One parent told us they had put Hanson down for their third or fourth choice, but now wanted to change it to their top choice.

“We think it really made the school seem a key part of the local community for a lot of parents.”
