A former Lord Mayor of Bradford will join a campaign against the company used to carry out controversial government disability assessments tomorrow.
Councillor Naveeda Ikram (Lab, Little Horton) will join protesters outside the premises of Atos Healthcare, on Bank Street, a centre used to conduct fit-to-work tests on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions for people across the Bradford district.
The demonstration is one of 140 planned in a nationwide day of action across the UK.
“A lot of my constituents are being let down by the way Atos is assessing them,” she said. “They feel they are being unfairly assessed, and it is not disability-friendly at all.”
Bradford Council is carrying out an investigation into the disability assessments via its Health and Social Care Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
A spokesman for Atos Healthcare said lobbying against it would have no impact on welfare policy.
