Friends of Prince of Wales Park who brave the chilly weather to improve Bingley’s historic greenspace have been rewarded with the gift of free thermal undies.
Damart has brought colour to the cheeks of volunteers who are busy turning the park beside Lady Lane into a more attractive, fun and safe place for families and local people.
The Bingley-based online shopping brand, best known for its thermals, has also given £1,000 to help improve the park which is close to its UK headquarters in Bingley.
Ruth Leman, chairman of the Friends group, said: “We’re so grateful to Damart for their very generous donation – and, of course, the thermals will make a real difference to the volunteers working in the park at this time of the year.”
Damart’s senior and ecommerce manager Ben Phillips said: “We’re full of admiration for the Prince of Wales Park volunteers who are working hard to not only raise money to improve the park, but also turning out in all weathers, twice a week to do the often-back-breaking work needed.
“We’re delighted to not only be able to boost the fundraising campaign, but also help keep these hardy volunteers warm while they work. We’re always happy to support excellent campaigns like this in the area in which we work and many of our colleagues live.”
The Friends of Prince of Wales Park volunteers will be using the money as part of its bid for WREN funding of £50,000 of which it has to pay £5,500.
“The WREN project will really help us transform the park and this money is a real boost to our fundraising for the £5,500 needed for the application,” Mrs Leman added.
If successful, the funding will pay for renovation and improvement work that cannot be done by the volunteers such as renovating the drinking fountain and installing heritage trails and adventure play equipment.
