Bradford MP George Galloway has described bonuses to bankers as a national scandal.
In a parliamentary motion the MP said: “Bankers’ bungs have reached £80bn since the 2008 financial crisis, much of this money paid to people working in effectively state-owned banks – banks which have failed and been bailed out by billions of taxpayers’ money.
“That amounts to over £1,000 for every man, woman and child in the country. And this coalition government is doing nothing to curb it. The age of affluence continues in the City while for the overwhelming majority of the country penury rules.”
The Bradford West Respect MP has also put in motions criticising the proposed privatisation of pensions delivery and developments on flood plains.
“Local authorities who give planning permission for developments on flood plains should be made legally liable,” he said. “And those affected by it should sue.”
