Watch out Dynamo – there’s a hot new illusionist on the scene and, despite being only eight years old, she’s already becoming a veteran of magic shows.
Deanna Gore, of Queensbury, started performing magic tricks at the age of two and wows audiences with illusions such as escapology and being sawn in half.
She and her father, magician Steve Gore, perform as a double act called Make Believe Magic and will be taking to the stage at Bradford Magic Circle’s show, Hey Presto!, next month.
Bradford-born illusionist Dynamo has taken to Twitter to support the show, tweeting: “Live in Yorkshire and love magic? Go see the Hey Presto show in Bingley.”
Mr Gore, who has been a magician for 20 years and is a former president of Bradford Magic Circle, practises tricks with Deanna at home and the pair recently performed at the Northern Magic Circle’s Best of British gala show.
Deanna, whose tricks include sawing her father in half, is described by him as “a natural”.
“She did a routine with me at Bradford Magic Circle’s 2007 Christmas show and she loved performing,” said Mr Gore.
“At the age of three she did escapology and was invited to perform at Northern Magic Circle’s junior day.
“When she was four we did a mini cube zag illusion, where I ‘separated’ her into three – then restored her of course!”
Now Deanna has been elected to represent her school, Shibden Head, at the Great Heights Talent show at Victoria Hall, Queensbury, in March. The contest will feature youngsters from several primary schools.
Other acts appearing at the Hey Presto! show are comedy magician Mark Waddington from Skipton, who made his professional debut aged 13; Bradford children’s magician Keith Pickles, who has been entertaining youngsters for more than 40 years; Ray Roberts, a former president of Bradford Magic Circle, who started magic 60 years ago, aged nine, with a magic set he got as a Christmas present and has supported acts like Tommy Cooper; ‘time travellers’ Morgan and West who ‘fooled’ American magic legends Penn and Teller on their ITV show and recently completed their first national tour; illusionist Andrew Green, described as one of the driving forces of contemporary illusion, who blends state-of-the-art illusion and magic with dynamic choreography and mime; and the Wright Theatre Academy Dancers from Ilkley.
l Bradford Magic Circle’s Hey Presto show is at Bingley Arts Centre on Saturday, March 22. For tickets call (01274) 567983.
