The M62 has been closed in both directions between junctions 22 (Rishworth Moor) and 24 (Ainley Top) to high-sided vehicles as the predicted high winds begin to have an impact.
Two lanes were closed initially, between junctions 22 and 23 (Huddersfield) after a lorry overturned on the westbound carriageway.
Police said the Highways Agency took the decision to close the motorway to high-sided vehicles between junctions 22 and 24.
Forecasters had earlier warned that high winds are expected to cause disruption across the Bradford district today.
The Met Office has forecast that Yorkshire is due to experience strengthening winds into this evening.
The worst impact is expected to be from around 6pm today.

An Amber warning has been issued, which means there could be possible disruption including travel delays, road and rail closures, interruption to power and potential risk to life and property.
Conditions are expected to become very windy into tonight with severe gales or storms, wintry showers on hills and bitterly cold temperatures.
In windy conditions, the emergency services typically sees an increase in calls.
This is often due to loose items, such as trampolines and garden furniture, causing problems.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer Dave Walton, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “The public can do their bit to keep everyone safe by ensuring these items are stowed away or properly tied down in high winds.
“We have had incidents in the past where trampolines have been blocking roadways and it can cause traffic havoc.
“In high winds also please take that extra bit of care when driving and consider whether your journey really is essential.”
The fire service said amber warnings meant people needed to be prepared to change their plans and take steps to protect themselves, their family and community from the impacts of severe weather.
