A 20-year-old man was boxed in by the police after driving dangerously on a punctured tyre with sparks flying from the vehicle, Bradford Crown Court heard today.
Jack Peart took his brother’s car keys without permission and was pursued by officers round the Holme Wood area of Bradford on Thursday, November 28.
He was spotted by a patrol car on Knowles Lane and pursued along Broadstone Way at almost 60mph.
A police vehicle was damaged when he braked suddenly while he was being boxed in, prosecutor Adam Birkby told Bradford Crown Court today.
Peart, of York Crescent, Bingley, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving and driving without insurance.
His barrister, David McGonigal, said it was his first appearance in court and that he was a hard-working young man who had held down a number of jobs.
Peart was sentenced to a 12-month community order with a high-level activity requirement and 150 hours of unpaid work.
He was banned from driving for two years.
