More speed humps are planned in the Highfield area of Keighley.

The traffic-calming measures are proposed in several streets to slam the brakes on speeding motorists.

And a speed table will be installed in Mornington Street, where humps introduced last year were hailed as a massive success.

The latest planned £15,000 package includes humps in Albert Street, Highfield Street, Scott Street and Spencer Street.

Keith Escritt, Bradford Council Highways’ principal engineer, said: “This scheme will further extend the traffic-calmed residential area of Highfield to address the concerns of local people and ward councillors about speeding traffic.

“The road safety scheme was approved by Keighley Area Committee early last year and we hope to complete the work within the next three months.”

The proposals were advertised last week and the period for any objections ends on February 20.

Keighley Central councillor Abid Hussain welcomes the latest measures.

“The humps installed last year have been extremely effective and these new plans are good news – I’m very pleased,” he said.

“I’m fully behind the council on this. We need to slow down traffic for the safety of young children and older people in particular.”
