A Bradford fundraiser is urging people to come together ‘For Onesie Day Only’ to write their name into the record books and raise money for a baby care unit in the city.

Wibsey-born Conner Conley, 44, is hoping to attract a world-record number of supporters to a family fun day in Bradford at the end of April, all kitted out in the popular one-piece outfits.

Mr Conley, from the Dolphiger Events charity, is aiming to raise much-needed funds for the neo-natal unit at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

“My granddaughter was cared for on the ward last year, and it really opens your eyes to the work that goes on there,” he said. “I’ve done lots of charity events before, but this one is really personal as without the work that goes on here, these babies would not see life.”

Mr Conley says he wants to “put Bradford on the map” with the world record bid, and hopes that the onesie concept will appeal to both children and parents alike.

“Onesies are a bit of a phenomenon at the minute, so I thought it’d be a great idea,” he said. “It’s a bit tongue in cheek, but I want the day to be fun more than anything else.”

The event at the Field Sports and Social Club on Hollingwood Lane, Lidget Green, on Sunday, April 27, is set to feature a range of musical entertainment and family activities, with the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Khadim Hussain, also due to attend.

The current world record number of people gathered together in onesies is 752, set in November at the MK Dons FC stadium in Milton Keynes, but Mr Conley is hoping to smash that figure.

He said: “Achieving a world record for Bradford would be fantastic, especially when it’s for such a good cause. Parents might feel a little bit daft in their onesies, but everyone will be in the same boat and I’m hoping kids will love it.”

Mr Conley visited the hospital this week and met Bradford mother Maripher Marunder, whose son is being cared for in the neo-natal unit after being born at just 23 weeks.

Susan Minchella, clinical services manager at BRI, said: “We were delighted when Conner approached us with the fundraising idea.”

Mr Conley is looking for volunteers willing to help out at the event and is also keen to hear from any local businesses willing to support the world-record bid.
