Police have issued a warning about “determined scammers” after a resident in Bradford was targeted.
A man from Great Horton contacted police yesterday to say he had received a phone call from someone pretending to be from a technology company.
A police spokesman said: “The caller stated that the man’s computer was under attack and that he must turn it on immediately. The idea behind this is to gain access to either private information on the computer or private information from the person themselves.”
The man put the phone down but the scammer rang back at least three times.
The spokesman added: “The man stood his ground and the scammer appears now to have got the message. Please do not allow yourself or vulnerable family members to fall victim to this type of thing.”
