An elderly woman has been airlifted to hospital after she suffered serious injuries in an accident with a car in Skipton.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said the victim, who is aged in her 80s, was hit by a Nissan Micra as she crossed Gargrave Road, at the junction with Belgrave Road, at 9.25am today.
She was taken by air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary.
The road has been closed in both directions while collision investigators examine the scene, and is not expected to re-open for several hours.
Parents and pupils at Skipton Girls' School and Ermysted’s Grammar are free to move in and out of school, but have been warned not to cross police tape cordoning off the scene.
Witnesses to the incident should call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Traffic Constable Dave Clayton, quoting incident number 88.
