Roll up, roll up – smash hit circus musical Barnum is coming to Bradford.
Tickets for the show, which features daring circus stunts and stars Brian Conley as legendary showman PT Barnum, go on sale next week.
The show – which opened at Chichester Festival Theatre’s Theatre In The Park last summer – follows the irrepressible dreams of Phineas T Barnum, ‘America’s Greatest Showman’.
The story of his life and his marriage to Chairy, it reveals a couple looking at the world from opposite sides of the spectrum.
The production follows the showman’s life as he lit up the world with the colour, warmth and excitement of his imagination and finally teamed up with JA Bailey to create Barnum And Bailey’s Circus – the Greatest Show On Earth.
Brian Conley is one of the UK’s biggest musical theatre stars and was most recently a hit playing Fagin in the national tour of Cameron Mackintosh’s production of Oliver!.
His other West End hits include playing Edna Turnblad in Hairspray and Caractacus Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the London Palladium. A highlight of his career was originating the role of another great iconic American showman, Al Jolson, in the musical Jolson, for which he was nominated for an Olivier Award.
On television he starred in The Grimleys and his ITV1 show The Brian Conley Show.
Barnum’s exuberant score includes Come Follow The Band and The Colours Of My Life. The show opened on Broadway in 1980, starring Glenn Close and Jim Dale, and won three Tony Awards. When Barnum opened at the London Palladium in 1981 Michael Crawford took the lead, winning an Olivier Award for his performance.
Barnum runs at the Alhambra from November 25 to 29. November 2014. Tickets go on sale next Wednesday on (01274) 432000.
