Bradford West MP George Galloway has said he was “not at all serious” when he said he “would fancy being the prime minister” of an independent Scotland.

The Bradford West MP was speaking in Edinburgh ahead of the latest date on his Just Say Naw speaking tour – which is part of his bid to convince Scots to vote no in a referendum – when he made the quip.

Mr Galloway said he was surprised that reporting had led on his comment, made in jest, especially when he is so passionate about campaigning against an independent Scotland.

He was reported as saying: "I would fancy being prime minister of Scotland but I would rather we had a real Labour prime minister of the whole of Britain.”
