A man has been arrested after concerns were raised about a “home alone” child in Bradford.

Police responded to information and attended an address in the Barkerend area of the city, where they found a four-year-old.

Officers later arrested a man in connection with the incident.

He was taken to Trafalgar House Police Station in Nelson Street, Bradford, where he was quizzed on suspicion of child neglect and child abandonment.

After being questioned, he was released on bail pending further police inquiries.

Police said they took action after receiving information from the local community.

Officers said no harm had come to the child, who was now being looked after by family members.

The Bowling, Barkerend and Bradford Moor neighbourhood policing team, in a message on their website.

It said: “On Friday, January 31, officers from your local neighbourhood policing attended at an address in Barkerend, after receiving information from the local community that a four-year-old child had been left home alone.

“On arrival at the address, a four-year-old child was found home alone.”

Police said that, a short time later, a man “was arrested by PC Akhtar and PC Moore for child abandonment and neglect.”

The male was taken to Trafalgar House Police Station where he was interviewed and then bailed for further enquiries.”

Police added: “The four-year-old child was fit and well and was left in the care of family members.”
