Jazz fans are flocking to Bingley’s York Street Sports and Social Club to hear some of the best jazz the region has to offer.
Recent acts have included young New Orleans-inspired trumpeter Mark Croasdale with vocalist Ruth Gadziel, veteran cornet player Harry Long and 18-year-old singer Pip Sayer, and Matt Holborn’s Gypsy Jazz quartet of accomplished 20-somethings re-creating the swinging sounds of Django Reinhardt.
Appearing at the club in February is Louis, Louis, Louis, re-creating the music of Louis Jordan and Louis Prima.
Regular slots are taken by the Forest New Orleans Band, led by Arthur Stead from Keighley, and the Harry Long Band from Addingham.
Also in February is an appearance by legendary Leeds trombonist Ed O’Donnell who has played with the likes of Ken Colyer and Acker Bilk.
- The club meets every Thursday from 8pm to 10.30pm. For more details, e-mail david stanley231@btinternet.com.
