Tong and Wyke PCSO Denis Bennett has been working with ward councillors to deliver a road safety initiative to schoolchildren.

Pupils at Shirley Manor Primary, Appleton Academy and Worthinghead Primary took part in the Neighbourhood Policing Team's Darker Nights campaign.

The children were taught to ‘STOP, LOOK, LISTEN, THINK, ARRIVE ALIVE’ and a drill, involving them shouting out the actions and using hand signals to enhance them.

The classroom input was followed by a practical lesson at the roadside, which included how to negotiate zebra, pelican and lollipop crossings.

Councillors donated ward funds to provide the children with reflective jackets, flashing armbands and pump bags.
