Rail staff are being helped to stay warm this winter after donations of thermal clothing from Bingley-based Damart.
The company has given clothing to Northern Rail staff at Leeds station and explained the benefits of thermals to commuters there.
Damart used the latest infra-red thermographic technology to scan commuters as they crossed the platform footbridge.
It showed where they were losing heat and people were able to try on thermals and see its effect on body- heat loss.
Phil Anderson, Damart marketing and e-commerce director, said: “This showcased how our thermals do their job and really showed station staff and commuters how beneficial a Damart thermal layer can be.
“The infra-red technology shows a thermal layer does work and is essential in keeping the chill at bay. Station staff work in sometimes very cold conditions and we’re delighted to be helping keep them warm.”
Anthony Walker, director of thermal-imaging company ThermoSurvey, added: “Thermo- graphic technology is used across all industries to show where people, machinery and even buildings are losing the most heat. In Damart’s case, the benefit of a thermal is not to be underestimated as body heat can be reduced from 34C to just above 22C.”
Alex Haynes, of Northern Rail, said: “This fantastic donation of Damart’s famous thermals will help keep our teams warm while keeping customers on the move.”
