One in seven adults in Bradford is worried about parents staying warm this winter, research has revealed.
The study, conducted by the Home Heat Helpline, showed that overall, 84 per cent of adults in the district worried about their parents. Concerns about their health, safety and whether they were lonely were also common.
A spokesman for the Home Heat Helpline said 51,000 households in Bradford were eligible for free help with their heating and energy bills.
And Mervyn Kohler, of Age UK, said: “Winter can be a very distressing time for many older people so it’s vital older people stay warm and well inside and outside during the winter months. Last winter there were 24,000 deaths because of the cold weather that could have been avoided – that’s 200 a day.”
