A 55-year-old man caught growing skunk cannabis with a potential street value of £32,000 has been jailed for three years.
Police raided Peter Bergin’s house in Back Cavendish Street, Idle, Bradford, after a neighbour complained about an “overwhelming” smell of the drug coming from his home, Bradford Crown Court heard.
Bergin pleaded guilty earlier this month to production of cannabis and possession of the class B drug with intent to supply on June 22 last year.
Prosecutor Bashir Ahmed said police seized 84 cannabis plants and two bags of the drug, along with scales and some cash.
Bergin told the police he had smoked cannabis for 35 years and was growing his own to save money. He said he supplied friends and family with the drug.
He was locked up yesterday by the Recorder of Bradford, Judge Roger Thomas QC.
