Work has started on turning an overgrown allotment site in Bradford into a community garden – with the help of primary school children.
Diggers have moved on to Scotchman Road allotments, off Toller Lane, to clear unused land ready for transformation.
Pupils at Margaret McMillan and Lilycroft Primary Schools also got stuck into the work, which includes clearing the site, landscaping, marking out path-ways and fencing off the remaining working allotments from the community garden.
The work was commissioned after residents living near the site had become concerned after demand for the plots dropped and the land became an eyesore.
Toller ward Labour Councillors Amir Hussain, Arshad Hussain and Imran Hussain agreed to Area Action Planning money being used towards a community garden.
