A shocked community is rallying round in tribute to a popular 20-year-old man who plunged to his death from a tower block in the Aire Valley.
Friends on Keighley’s Braithwaite estate, where Maurice Raymond Tretton lived until his recent move to Bingley, are fundraising to support the family.
And a banner and other tributes have been placed close to the Ring out of respect for Mr Tretton, who was known by the nickname ‘Moz’.
“We couldn’t believe it when we heard what had happened,” said Angela Murray, who had known Mr Tretton since he was a baby.
“He was a real ‘jack the lad’ and had a lot of friends. He was so popular.”
She and her niece, Jodie Murray, and several friends are raising funds and planning events in his memory.
A collection box has been placed in the newsagents by the Ring, and a Facebook page set up.
“We want to give him a good send-off and help the family,” said Miss Murray.
She said Mr Tretton until recently lived in North Dean Road, and had attended Guard House and Oakbank schools, in Keighley.
His mum still lives at Braithwaite.
As the Telegraph & Argus reported on Monday, police were called to Adelaide House in Bingley soon after 4am on Saturday where Mr Tretton, who had moved to the block, was found lying on the ground outside the flats.
Det Insp Ryan Bragg, of Bradford CID, said: “We were called to a report that a man had fallen from the sixth floor of a property at Crosley Wood Road, Bingley.
“He was treated by paramedics, but died at the scene.
“Inquiries are ongoing, but at this stage there is nothing to suggest any third party involvement in the death.”
Floral tributes were left at the scene over the weekend.
