A Bradford woman arrested for brandishing a knife in public was given a 12- month community order when she appeared at Bradford Crown Court today.

Pervein Thompson, 46, of Westcroft Road, Little Horton, had pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article at a preliminary hearing.

Paul Nicholson, prosecuting, told the court police had been informed of Thompson walking down Southfield Lane, Bradford, at about 6.40am on Saturday, November 2, last year, walking out in front of motorists and asking them to run her over.

When confronted by officers on the Canterbury estate, Thompson was seen carrying a large ornamental black knife, embellished with a swastika logo.

In mitigation, the court heard Thompson was under treatment for depression at the time of the incident, but had not taken her medication that day and “was not thinking straight”.

The community order entails a 30-day high-intensity activity requirement, and Judge Potter also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the knife.
