Calls by the Chancellor for an above-inflation increase in the minimum wage have been backed by Keighley MP Kris Hopkins.
He said it was “absolutely right” that people who had worked hard during the recession were properly rewarded for their efforts.
Chancellor George Osborne announced that the economy could now allow a rise in the minimum wage, which is currently set at £6.31 an hour for people over the age of 21.
Mr Hopkins said: “While it is for the Low Pay Commission to set the exact figure, I believe the Chancellor is correct in making his view clear and it is a position I strongly support.
“Our economy is moving out of its darkest days and into the sunlight. It is therefore absolutely right that people who have worked hard during the difficult years are properly rewarded for their efforts.”
