Bradford’s Poppy Appeal organiser, Barbara Allsopp, has thanked people for their generosity during the Royal British Legion’s annual fundraiser which raised £60,000 in the district.
The total matched the previous year’s, indicating that while many people are still feeling the pinch, they are continuing to support the country’s former and serving servicemen and women, she said.
Mrs Allsopp said: “I would like to say a big thank you to everybody who has been involved with the Poppy Appeal itself and to say thank you to the schools, factories, pubs and clubs and everybody, and to thank the public for their generous donations and also to let them know the money will be going to helping the former service and serving armed forces.”
On Saturday the city’s new war memorial, containing the names of the district’s service personnel who have lost their lives serving the country since the Second World War, will be unveiled with a ceremony starting at 11am.
