People in neighbourhoods across Shipley are invited to join together to help each other enhance where they live.
Over the last few months community forums have been held across the area asking people what they would like to change about the ward.
Now, all of those residents can meet each other at the Shipley Connected community planning day later this month. The day is being billed as “a day by and for the residents of Shipley”.
Themes for discussions include waterways, cycling, traffic, buildings and play spaces – although conversation will not be limited to just those areas.
The day, backed by Bradford Council, the Kirkgate Centre, Shipley Community First and Shipley College, aims to turn ideas into solid plans and details of grants available will be discussed.
Paul Barrett, of the Kirkgate Centre, said: “We’re hoping people will come together to look at things. It’s an opportunity for people to collaborate with people from other neighbourhoods.”
Mr Barrett said there were grants of up to £2,500 available and he thought up to ten groups could be supported financially.
Outdoor cafes and a central play area were some suggestions at a previous meeting at the town’s Kirkgate Centre last May.
“The aim is to make Shipley even better. It’s not about saying Shipley is a bad place – in the grand scheme of things Shipley is a great place to live – but one of the things people have said is there’s a lack of community in Shipley,” Mr Barrett said.
The planning day will be held at the Shipley College Exhibition Building in Saltaire, on Saturday January 25, from 10am until 2.30pm.
To book a free place, including lunch, call the Kirkgate Centre on (01274) 580186.
