Two brothers have been ordered to pay more than £5,000 each in fines and costs after hygiene problems were uncovered at a Bradford takeaway they own.
Muhammad Farooq, 27, and Muhammad Waqas, 24, both of Redcliffe Street in Keighley, admitted 17 offences when they appeared at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The court heard their Raja’s Chicken Bar outlet in Whetley Lane failed two Bradford Council inspections in October 2012 and June 2013. Issues included cross-contamination between raw chicken and ready-to-eat lettuce, staff not following correct procedures for washing and food debris in hand-wash basins.
Farooq and Waqas were each fined £3,600 and ordered to pay £1,486 in costs and a £120 victim surcharge. In mitigation, the court heard they had not known of the problems and sacked their manager when they found out.
