Bradford College has won two grants to run projects that promote cycling and walking to their students and staff.
One grant will allow the college to host an ‘Active Travel Street Party’ in May. Carlton Street will be transformed into a ‘green street’ where there will be activities designed to encourage staff and students to travel by foot, bike or public transport.
Bradford’s Whistling Woods International Film School is behind the other successful bid. The grant will pay for a student to create a film about cycling to the college.
It is hoped that the film’s premiere will be at the street party.
The money has been awarded from the Learning to Travel Differently Enterprise Fund, which is run by Sustrans, Bradford District Council, the University of Bradford, Bradford College and Cycle Re Cycle.
Sustrans project officer Jennie O’Hara said: “It is great that Bradford College have been successful in these two exciting bids.
“The street party will be a great way to engage with a whole range of students and staff about the benefits of active and sustainable travel.
“The timing of the film coincides well with the Grand Depart of the Tour de France and will be a great resource to help to put Bradford on the map as a cycling destination.”
