Gareth Malone – Voices (Decca) *** The genre-breaking new group, Gareth Malone’s Voices, make their debut with their new album Voices which treads uncharted territory by mixing lush, choral textures with innovative and contemporary recording techniques. Gareth Malone returns with his most personal album yet, embodying his vision of the future of choral music. After searching the UK for the most talented, young voices in the country he’s formed a genre-breaking new group, Gareth Malone’s Voices. The new album Voices is produced by the multi-Mercury Prize Nominated David Kosten and features covers of contemporary hits such as Hamburg Song (Keane), White Winter Hymnal (Fleet Foxes) and Sleeping with a Broken Heart (Alicia Keys). Plus solos from Lianne La Havas, Amber Le Bon and Fyfe Dangerfield (Guillemots).

The Rifles – None The Wiser (Cooking Vinyl) ***** I vaguely recall hearing of this band a few years ago but I never took much notice of them but I wish I had now because they’re actually really, really good. The Rifles fourth studio album is an Indie classic and even though this band like to consider themselves as being a bit of a mod band I found them to have a lot in common with The Beta Band but that could very well be down to the laid back vocal approach that lead singer Joe Stoker takes. None The Wiser is full of cleverly crafted songs that makes me want to delve into this band’s back catalogue just to make sure that this wasn’t just a fluke.
