A town hall clock which has been stuck at 12 o’clock since last summer will soon be telling the correct time more than twice a day. Cleckheaton councillors Andrew and Kath Pinnock and John Lawson have been trying to get £3,900 secured for repair works, which will now be paid for by the Spen Valley Area Committee. Coun Pinnock (Lib Dem) said she was pleased the funding had been agreed, but feels the area committee should not have had to foot the bill. “Our Spen Valley Area Committee has a small pot of money and we’ve persuaded the Council that we can use that to fund the repairs to the clock, which we shouldn’t have to do,” she said.
Repairs will be done by Smiths of Derby which made many of the country’s railway station clocks.
