Hoteliers are holding a fundraising night to help young people living with a rare medical condition.

Peter and Leanne Quinn are hosting the event on Tuesday, January 28, in tribute to Keighley teenager Amy Knowles, who suffers from a complex disorder.

They hope the festivities at the Old Registry restaurant and rooms in Main Street, Haworth, will raise money for Amy’s fund for research into a cure for the condition. Amy has a range of ailments that mean the nerves and muscles in her stomach do not work. She has undergone dozens of operations, and regularly has to spend several months at a time in Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

Amy’s bravery last year inspired pop star Jessie J to have her hair shaved off during the BBC’s Comic Relief marathon.

Peter and Leanne wanted to hold a fundraising event to celebrate the first anniversary of taking over the Old Registry. Leanne said proceeds would support both the Amy May Yam fund – set up by Amy to fund specialist research at Great Ormond Street Hospital – and Amy’s own physical and mental well-being.

She said: “The event includes a hearty home-made supper, something sweet to finish, singing by Annie Drury, a magician and a raffle.”
