A 55-year-old man was caught growing skunk cannabis with a potential street value of £32,000 after a neighbour complained about an “overwhelming” smell of the drug coming from his home, Bradford Crown Court heard.
Peter Bergin pleaded guilty yesterday to production of cannabis and possession of the Class B drug with intent to supply on June 22 last year.
Prosecutor Bashir Ahmed said police seized 84 cannabis plants and two bags of the drug, along with scales and some cash from his home in Back Cavendish Street, Idle, Bradford.
Bergin told the police he had smoked cannabis for 35 years and was growing his own to save money. He said he supplied friends and family with the drug.
Bergin’s barrister, Ken Green, asked for the case to be adjourned for the preparation of a report from the probation service.
His bail was extended and he will return to court to be sentenced on January 27.
