Legal aid may be available to divorcing couples despite changes to the system, according to a family law firm from the district.
Makin Dixon Solicitors, of Cavendish Street, Keighley, said people in the situation should check.
Its advice was issued to coincide with National Divorce Day, last Friday, the date when solicitors traditionally see a spike in the number of people seeking advice on divorce.
“Many couples find that spending concentrated time together over the Christmas period can bring to light any underlying issues,” said a spokesman.
“Divorce is always the last option and not a decision that people will take lightly.
“It is important for people to be aware that although legal aid has been reduced, it is still available in certain circumstances. Unless people make that enquiry, they will not know whether or not they do qualify.”
