A four-storey building expansion inspired by Islamic art could soon be built onto a girls’ school in West Bowling.
The Foundation School on New Cross Street is an independent Muslim school for girls aged 10-17. Mohammad Afsar has submitted a planning application for an extension to the east side of the building, which is a pair of converted houses.
His application says the expansion is needed to create larger classrooms and an assembly hall.
It describes the metal screen that makes up the most visible part of the extension by saying: “The screen’s design has been developed with inspiration from an Islamic star pattern and its clean bold geometry encompasses and symbolises the users and gives them a sense of pride for their school.”
Bradford Council will decide on the application late next month.
