A Bradford woman celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday, surrounded by friends and five generations of her family.
Hilda Hanson, who has a son, three grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren and 22 great- great-grandchildren, was born and brought up in West Bowling, but is now a resident at Springfield Care Home on Halifax Road, Bradford.
Hilda, who has Alzheimer’s disease, moved into the home in May 2011 with her husband Albert, who died eight weeks later. The eldest of six children herself, Hilda worked in the Bradford mills from the age of 14 and was later an auxiliary on the children’s ward at St Luke’s Hospital, forging a lifelong love of working and spending time with children.
Her granddaughter, Sue Godward, 59, said: “Hilda enjoys seeing the great-great-grandchildren and will always give them a little present. She loves life and has a great sense of humour, always laughing and smiling.”
