People interested in re-enacting the experiences of First World War soldiers have been invited to be part of this year’s Haworth 1940s Weekend.
Although the popular annual event always looks to recreate the atmosphere of Second World War Britain, a small part of this year’s instalment will look back to the First World War to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of the conflict.
The 2014 1940s Weekend is being organised by the Soldiers, Sailors & Airmen’s Families Association (SSAFA).
Haworth Main Street trader, Nikki Carroll (pictured), said organisers are in the very early stages of planning a re-enactment of the unofficial Christmas 1914 truce, when troops on the Western Front briefly ceased fighting and even took part in football matches.
“We thought this would be in keeping and a respectful way of commemorating the Christmas Day Truce,” she said.
