A woman suffered puncture wounds to her face and legs in an attack by two dogs in Bradford.

She was set upon by a pair of American Staffordshire Terriers as she walked her own pets on Gain Lane, Thornbury.

The woman also suffered cuts and bruises to her ankles, arms and back during the attack.

One of her two dogs was also attacked and suffered “sustained” bite marks to the left side of its head and ear.

Police today released an appeal for witnesses to the attacks, which happened at some point between 5pm and 5.40pm on Boxing Day.

A police spokesman said the woman, who was on her own apart from her dogs, was out walking on Gain Lane, opposite Woodhall Road, when the incident happened.

A man was also out walking his two dogs at the same time.

The dogs - one a white American Staffy, the other a black one - were not on leads.

They approached the woman’s dogs and started attacking.

The woman kicked out at the dogs to try and stop the attack, but they instead turned on her.

She fell to the ground where the dogs continued to maul her.

The man pulled one of his dogs off the woman, allowing her to get back to her feet.

Police are keen to speak to the man who owns the two American Staffys.# He is believed to live in the Thornbury area and is described as Indian, about 65 years old and slim. He has a beard and was wearing a turban.

Any witnesses, or anyone with information on the attack, are asked to ring police on 101.
