A campaign group has written to Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin in protest at the Calder Valley Line, which links Bradford to the north west, being omitted from the government’s latest rail electrification plans.
Stephen Waring, chairman of HADRAG, the Halifax and District Rail Action Group, claims the line has a better case for modernisation than some of the schemes announced by Department for Transport on December 13.
The group says that, according to official station usage statistics, passenger growth on the Calder Valley Line has risen by 80 per cent over the last five years, with Bradford Interchange alone having an annual footfall of 2.88 million passengers from 2011 to 2012.
Mr Waring said: “It is astonishing that our line has been omitted from the list and we want the Secretary of State to correct this omission at the earliest opportunity in the New Year.”
HADRAG campaigns for strategic improvements to benefit travellers, the economy and the environment linked to the Calder Valley Line.
