More than 30 boxes of food have been delivered to a Bradford crisis charity, thanks to staff at the district's largest social landlord.

Over the last four weeks, staff at Incommunities have been donating everything from pasta to tinned fruits at six collection points set up in local offices.

The collection has been given to Bradford Foodbank, which has seen local demand for its services double.

The foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust, a charity which runs more than 400 food banks nationwide.

The housing group has also donated £1,000 to Bradford Metropolitan Food Bank, its chosen festive charity for 2013.

Bradford Metropolitan Food Bank is distributing seven times more food parcels a month than it was two years ago.

Geraldine Howley, Incommunities Group chief executive, said: “I would like to thank staff and customers who have given so generously to support families and individuals at this time of year.

“The contributions we have made to both the Bradford Foodbank and Bradford Metropolitan Food Bank will hopefully make a real difference to households in need.

“It is an important way in which, through our work, we are ‘Improving lives Incommunities’.”

Ben Haldane, Bradford Foodbank project manager, said: “Everyone at Bradford foodbank is so appreciative of the fantastic donations made by Incommunities staff and customers.

“Their contribution will really help at a time when the demands on our foodbank are at their highest.”
